The casual pursuit of knowledge by a quantum computing hopeful.
So after waffling thinking I had to structure my learning I decided that jumping into anything at all is better than dreaming out plans and just started watching a ton of videos on Quantum. Do not recommend for motivations sake: definitely watched a few Sabine Hossenfelder videos where she just blasts the technology and outlook, much better were finding Anastasia Marchenkova and Looking Glass Quantum – though I don’t think Anastasia’s crash into the field is nearly as random as her hook lines allude, but none the less she had some great insight into what math is needed for entry. Seems like perception is the foreboding factor primarily. And really so much of youtube opinion on the subject reminds me of listening to Duolingo reviews, what a waste to say it doesn’t work, of course it works, the more time anything exposes you to a subject the better.
What I know now: Quantum computers do not actually use ‘spooky action at a distance’ and there are already safeguards against hacking and decryption fears. The principles of the new technology are basically the same as ‘classical’ computers with the exceptions of needing extreme cooling via dilution refrigeration to attain the ridiculous thermal noise reducing temperatures of the colder than space millikelvins needed for qubit reading, and, crazier still, that qubits somehow are able to simultaneously produce multiple responses (or is it partial responses to inquiries?) making them vastly more powerful for certain problems that our current tech, allegedly, yet this so far has not been explained at all. Just thrown into the mix like magic. That I expect will be the fun part of making heads or tails of quantum mechanics.
Chapter one of the text book was great and upon much encouragement from that book, and seems like consensus among videos, I will be diving hard into linear algebra to start my math side catch up. Also, per Marchenkova suggestion, I ordered a copy of Quantum Computing: An Applied Approach.
